The organ of Kiyose Migiwa
Church, built by Mr. Tetsuo
Kusakari in October, 1997,
has 8 stops and a total
of approximately 400 pipes.
The term 'pipe organ' often
reminds us of a huge instrument
in a concert hall or a cathedral,
but they actually vary greatly
in size--the smallest of
which are even portable!
Kiyose Migiwa Church's organ,
of course, plays an important
role during the worship
service every Sunday, but
that is not its only purpose;
actually
the instrument makes two
specific contributions to
the culture of the pipe
organ in Japan. First of
all, because so few pipe
organs are available for
regular practice in Japan,
we allow some people, ranging
from amateur to professional
organist, to use this instrument
for practice on weekdays.
Secondly, every year Kiyose
Migiwa Church holds two
concerts for solo organ
in the spring and autumn
and a Christmas concert
for the organ and an ensemble.
These concerts provide opportunity
for a broader public to
experience the beauty of
the pipe organ and its unique
music heritage.
The pleasure of organ music
is not limited to its overwhelming
sound in a large concert
hall or cathedral, but also
includes the chamber-music-like
quality one can enjoy in
a more intimate venue like
our church--a place where
the audience can feel the
player's breathing. We hope
you will join us and enjoy
our pipe organ sometime
soon! |
